A BODY OF WORK History & Philosophy of the Pilates Method
Saturday August 14, 1-3pm
To understand the Pilates Method, it is important to gain a perspective of the man Joseph Pilates and his times. His early experiences of his own body as well as the developing movement therapies of the early 1900′s had profound influences on his philosophies and his creation of one of the first Western ‘mind-body’ techniques.
Using rare archival video footage and historical references, we will attempt to gain insights into Joseph’s methodology beyond the obvious creativeness of the repertoire.
This workshop is designed for anyone, from the seasoned practitioner and interested student, to those keen to learn about what has become a worldwide phenomenon. Workshop Registration Form
TACTILE CUEING Improving Your Touch Skills in Pilates
Saturday August 28, 1-5pm
The use of Touch can instantly and clearly communicate a requested movement pattern to your clients. Yet, it tends to be one of the last avenues used due to unfamiliarity and appropriateness.
This workshop seeks to improve your: ability to use your hands in specific, safe and permissible ways to help guide the movement required of your clients and to assist stretching and mobility. This will be an experiential workshop with time to explore and expand your use of touch, learning gentle ‘hand-assists’ to enhance your teaching of Pilates, Yoga or any movement of the body. MINDFUL STRETCHING Theory & Practical Techniques
Sunday September 26th, 1-4pm
Successful stretching is NOT part of the ‘No-Pain-No-Gain’ Paradigm; the body fights new information that is too painful. I’ll be presenting gentle, simple, yet no less powerful approaches to creating long-lasting changes in yourself and your clientele.
This workshop will pair participants so that you can practice your current stretch techniques while learning new approaches that are challenging to the client yet easy on the practitioners body. Workshop Registration Form
